Impact Creates Interactive CD-ROM About Life in Detroit in Early 1900s

the sights and sounds of Detroit 100 years ago. In celebration of Detroit's
300th birthday, Archive Impact announces the release of American Scrapbook:
Detroit Memories Vol. 1.
Detroit Memories
is an interactive CD-ROM that will give its audience a chance to explore
daily life in urban America through the eyes of those who lived it.
Detroit Memories will transport its audience back to early twentieth-century
Detroit to discover what it was like to work in a factory, attend school,
and have fun with family and friends in the city. The staff of Archive
Impact has drawn on their experience as archivists and librarians to
showcase diverse primary source material from area archives and to create
a true multimedia experience.
The audience will view photographs, film,
and animation as they listen to narration from "grandma" and
"grandpa" backed by Detroit music. The CD-ROM will be available
for purchase for $39.95.
Detroit Memories
is intended for adults and children interested in life in urban America
from the turn of the century to pre-WWII. A teacher's edition is also
available which includes a study guide with international historical
context. This educational tool is suitable for children in Grades 4
through 10. Topics include ethnic and diverse cultures, women in the
workforce, manufacturing, local theaters, science and technology, Packard
automobiles, immigration, parks and recreation (Belle Isle), and education.

staff of 30 librarians, archivists, designers and photographers contribute
diverse professional training and educational backgrounds to the success
of the company. Since 1994, Archive Impact has succeeded in indexing
more than 700,000 images and thousands of hours of footage. Archive
Impact also offers a complete range of archival services, both onsite
and offsite, for textual and multimedia collections. The company coordinated
one of the largest private image digitization projects in the field,
with staff responsible for the appraisal, arrangement, preservation,
scanning, research services, indexing and thesaurus development. Clients
include corporations, public libraries, archives, graphic and stock
houses, film producers and television channels.
Archive
Impact's commitment to the city is firmly established by the company's
presence in the historic Book Tower Building, and by the development
of products that showcase Detroit history. The company will continue
to direct projects that will generate public awareness and enthusiasm
about the history and culture of Detroit. Future plans include the addition
of new research services in such areas as historic building research
and period authentication, the expansion of the company's photo stockhouse
and the further development of multimedia educational products.
